Sri Chinmoy

Sri Chinmoy was born in Chittagong, East Bengal, on August 27th, 1931. He came to America in 1964 and made his home in New York. Since that time, he has dedicated his life to upholding the dream of a oneness-world-family. It is a dream that far transcends differences of race or creed. Sri Chinmoy's boundless inspiration is conveyed through music, art and literature. He has composed many thousands of devotional songs and performs on a wide variety of musical instruments, both Eastern and Western.
In the realm of art, he has created over 200,000 abstract paintings and produced a staggering 14 million line drawings of birds which he takes as emblems of the human soul. He has also written close to 1500 books on spiritual themes.
At age 73, Sri Chinmoy has now lifted overhead more than 7,200 individuals who have contributed significantly to the betterment of our world. He calls this programme "Lifting Up the World with a Oneness-Heart". These creative manifestations are just some of the ways in which Sri Chinmoy's own life has become a testimony to the unlimited potential of the human spirit.
Beyond these activities, Sri Chinmoy travels the world extensively, offering prayerful concerts, meeting with people from every walk of life and guiding his students in their inner lives.
